IGYDP Youth Highlights

Bernice Anderson

Bernice Anderson, who started out as a Build Her Up scholar, worked her way up to a CCRV member, Rhodes Scholar, CBO Young-Leader, and became the Co-Director of the Build Her Up Summer Peer Institute. She graduated from high school and received a 4-year scholarship to attend Newbury College. In 2012, Bernice won the Bell of the Ball spotlight interview on Fox News for her community service work through the Build Her Up Program.

Yamiliah Ballkishun

Yamiliah Ballkishun started as a Build Her Up scholar, then worked her way up to a CCRV member, Rhodes Scholar, CBO-Young Leader, and is now the Assistant Director to the Build Her Up Summer Peer Institute. She was promoted to the 11th grade and will continue to work as a CBO-Young Leader and Lead Trainer.


Christopher Rivera

Christopher Rivera served as the Build Them Up Coalition Program Manager and Director of the Build Them Up Rhodes Scholars. Christopher attended the School of Social Work at Bridgewater State University, and completed his field practicum study with IGYDP from September 2011 to May 2012. Through his leadership skills, Christopher was able to expand the program to incorporate the Build Him Up Summer Peer Institute and mentor three very talented young people. As a mentor, he provided guidance and support for IGYDP Rhodes scholars by providing 16 hours of service per week for 9 months.

Christopher Rivera received his Bachelors degree from Bridgewater State University in Social Work in May 2012 and is currently planning to obtain a masters degree in social work so that he can continue to help youth.


James Cutts

Starting as a Build Him Up scholar at IGYDP, James Cutts worked his way up to a Rhodes Scholar, CBO-Young Leader, and finally became the Co-Director of the Build Him Up Summer Peer Institute. James graduated from Dorchester High School and enrolled in Bunker Hill Community College. James has plans to transfer to Howard University in Washington, D.C. next year.


Kayla Satchel

Kayla Satchel started out as a Build Her Up scholar at IGYDP, then worked her way up to become the Director of BTU Summer Peer Institute in 2007. Kayla has since graduated High School and now attends Winston Salem State College in North Carolina.
